Everyone is having fun but me

In two weeks, I am meeting friends to paint together in Rye, NY at Painters on Location. This is the only time of the year when I get together with Brad Marshall and Bruce Bundock, and we’re all looking forward to having time to catch up as well as paint.

Bruce has torn his kitchen out. If you’ve ever done that, you know that it’s an all-encompassing experience, as you are unable to get on with daily life until it is finished.

Brad’s the lucky one, doing a Painter-in-Residence gig at Bryant Park in Manhattan. Yesterday I was on Facebook and saw a bunch of pictures of him with my former studio assistant, Sandy Quang. Sandy’s been working at Bonhams Auction House and ran into Brad in Bryant Park. They looked like they were having a great time.

I’m saved from envy by knowing how many hours Brad spends doing other work to make painting possible. The same is true of Bruce, and, I suppose, of me, too.

I’m not complaining, but I sure would like to spend more time with a #6 flat and less with an angled trim brush right now.
